Team SpiderTech powered by Planet Energy scores two top 10 finishers in America’s biggest one-day race

Boivin and Gilbert place 6th & 7th, squad active in key breaks

Philadelphia, PA – Canada’s Team SpiderTech powered Planet Energy came to Philadelphia to be a factor in today’s TD Bank International Cycling Championship and they were, placing two riders in the top 10 while being protagonists in key moves throughout the 250-kilometer/156-mile race.  After more than six-and-a-quarter hours on the bike riding through oppressive humidity, heat and windy conditions, the team’s Guillaume Boivin and Martin Gilbert sprinted home in sixth and seventh places in the twenty-sixth edition of America’s biggest and longest-running one-day professional road race that was won by Australian Matthew Goss (HTC-Columbia) ahead of Peter Sagan (Liquigas-Doimo) and Alexander Kristoff (BMC Racing).

An international field of nearly two hundred riders from invited pro teams, including three ProTour squads (HTC-Columbia, Liquigas-Doimo and Footon-Servetto), took the start.  The team’s Bruno Langlois got into a large early race move that escaped on the first lap.  Langlois maintained his position when the break thinned the herd during the third of ten big laps that included ascents up the steep Manayunk Wall, a seventeen-percent grade grind of one-kilometer in length.  The big lead group rode together until the sixth lap when Canadian Will Routley (Jelly Belly presented by Kenda) attempted a long solo escape.  Tenaciously he held off the chase until the last trip up The Wall when he was nailed back by two four-man groups, one of which contained Team SpiderTech powered by Planet Energy’s Ryan Roth.  A reshuffling occurred and Roth soldiered on as part of a new four-man lead group that included Daniel Oss (Liquigas-Doimo), Ermanno Capelli (Footon-Servetto) and Serhy Grechyn (Amore & Vita - Conad).  For a time, it looked like the break might outfox the sprinters, but when HTC-Columbia, UnitedHealthCare, Jamis-Sutter Homes and Kelly Benefit Strategies combined forces, the catch was inevitable.  With approximately three kilometers remaining, they were gobbled up by what was left of the decimated peloton setting the stage for a mass gallop up the long Benjamin Franklin Parkway.  Goss came around the right side to score the coveted victory with Boivin and Gilbert close behind in the Australian’s shadow.

“Team SpiderTech was awesome today.  We had Bruno Langlois and Ryan Roth in the major breaks, which made things easier for Martin and me since other teams were forced to chase the breaks and we could focus on being there for the (finishing) sprint.  Martin did a perfect lead-out, but I got boxed in and couldn't do the sprint I wanted.  But we were in a strong position to go for the win and with a complete team, which bodes well for upcoming races and the rest of the season,” said Boivin after the race.

"Team SpiderTech rode all the way to the line with the ambition of winning Philly,” said director Steve Bauer.  “Our guys covered breaks all day.  First it was Bruno Langlois, who kept the team relaxed in the peloton and then we put Ryan Roth into an important late race move that was caught with only three kilometers remaining.  Gilbert and Boivin went man against man with the best sprinters and came up a little short, but not by much.  Both sprinters looked disappointed after the long race, but the entire team finished strongly and contributed throughout, which is highly commendable under extreme humidity.”

In addition to close to 300,000 spectators in attendance, the race was televised live in high definition for the first time on Comcast SportsNet and Versus.

Canada’s only UCI (Union Cycliste Internationale) continental team, Team SpiderTech powered by Planet Energy is a talented young squad comprised of Canadian Olympians and national champions that have celebrated twelve UCI wins thus far this season.  The outfit will next focus on events held on Canadian soil: the UCI Individual Time Trial in Gatineau, Quebec (June 12) where Parisien and Roth will represent the team, and the Tour de Beauce (June 15-20) at which a full squad will compete.  Additional information is available at www.cyclesportmanagement.com.

  1. Matthew Goss (HTC-Columbia)
  2. Peter Sagan (Liquigas-Doimo)
  3. Alexander Kristoff (BMC Racing)
  1. Guillaume Boivin (SpiderTech propulsée par Planet Energy)
Martin Gilbert (SpiderTech propulsée par Planet Energy)

Team SpiderTech powered by Planet Energy ready for Philly

Canadian squad motivated for Sunday’s TD Bank Philadelphia International Cycling Championship

Philadelphia, PA: Coming off a strong debut at the recently concluded Amgen Tour of California, Team SpiderTech powered by Planet Energy is confident and focused on riding for the win at this Sunday’s (June 6) TD Bank Philadelphia International Cycling Championship, America’s biggest and longest-running one-day professional road race.  Canada’s only UCI (Union Cycliste Internationale) continental team is sending eight riders - François Parisien, Lucas Euser, Martin Gilbert, Andrew Randell, Guillaume Boivin, Eric Boily, Ryan Roth and Bruno Langlois – with the mission of racing for victory at the twenty-sixth edition of the 250-kilometer/156-mile race that will unfold on the streets of America’s birthplace in front of over 300,000 spectators and millions of television viewers.

Consisting of seven Canadians and one American (Euser), the lineup is almost identical to the squad that scored four consecutive top 10 stage finishes last month at the Amgen Tour of California (May 16-23), one of the most important stage races on the international calendar that attracts some of the sport’s top teams and marquee riders.  Recovered from recent knee troubles, Roth, one of the team’s strongest all-around riders, joins the Team SpiderTech powered by Planet Energy roster in place of David Boily, who was one of the unit’s four finishers in the eight-day trek through the Golden State.  Instead, David Boily and the team’s Simon Lambert-Lemay are racing for the Canadian national team this weekend at the UCI Nations Cup, a U-23 (under age 23) event in Saguenay, Quebec.

"We are not holding anything back at the TD Bank Philadelphia International Championship.  We are shooting for the win.  Our team has won a few bike races this year in the final sprint and we have a legitimate chance on Sunday.  I am expecting our guys to be 100% in the game; it’s a race we have been looking forward to," said Team SpiderTech powered by Planet Energy director Steve Bauer.

As per usual, an international field of nearly two hundred riders from invited pro teams, including three ProTour squads (HTC-Columbia, Liquigas and Fuji-Servetto), are expected to take the start.  Starting and finishing at the Benjamin Franklin Parkway in the shadow of the Philadelphia Art Museum, the route consists of ten large circuits and three smaller circuits.  It’s primarily a fast and flat course except for the short burst up Lemon Hill (thirteen ascents) and the menacing Manayunk Wall (ten ascents), which is a steep, seventeen-percent grade, one-kilometer climb that tests the riders’ strength, fitness and fortitude throughout the six-hour race usually held under stifling heat and humidity.  Although long breakaways are common, the day typically culminates in a massive field sprint.  For the first time, the race will be televised live.  Comcast SportsNet will broadcast from 12-3:30 PM ET and Versus will televise the last ninety minutes of the race.  For further information, please visit www.procyclingtour.com.

Team SpiderTech powered by Planet Energy is a gifted squad of Canadian Olympians and national champions that are all capable of winning races.  Thus far this season, eight different riders have netted the team’s twelve UCI wins.  After Philly, the outfit’s looming goals come on Canadian turf at the UCI Individual Time Trial in Gatineau, Quebec (June 12) where Parisien and Roth will represent the team, and at the Tour de Beauce (June 15-20) where a full squad will compete.  Additional information is available at www.cyclesportmanagement.com.

Team SpiderTech powered by Planet Energy confirm their place while glimpsing the future at the Amgen Tour of California

Team nets four top 10s, Euser marks return by finishing 18th GC

Thousand Oaks, CA: The future looks bright for Team SpiderTech powered by Planet Energy, which completed its inaugural trek around the Golden State yesterday at the Amgen Tour of California, the most prestigious bicycle race in the United States.  The team’s top General Classification rider was Napa, California native Lucas Euser, who placed eighteenth overall in the race won by Australian Michael Rogers (HTC-Columbia).  Three other riders – David Boily, Bruno Langois and Andrew Randell – from Canada’s only UCI (Union Cycliste Internationale) continental team finished the eight-day, 1280-kilometer race that began in Nevada City on May 16th and ended in Thousand Oaks.  En route, Team SpiderTech powered by Planet Energy placed riders in the top 10 in the first four stages of the California race.

“We came to race and we did from the start,” said team director Steve Bauer.  “We put riders in the breaks and really raced.  We didn’t just go along for the ride.  Sure, we hit the wall in Stage 6 (the brutal Queen’s stage saw nearly forty riders drop out or miss the time cut, including Team SpiderTech’s Eric Boily, Guillaume Boivin, Martin Gilbert and Francois Parisien), but part of that was because we raced aggressively from the start.  We held nothing back and proved that we belonged in this race.

“I think we also got a glimpse of the future this week and we’re very pleased.  Guillaume scored two top 10 finishes and he will turn twenty-one on Tuesday (May 25).  David is another young rider to watch.  He turned twenty last month.  Give him another couple of years to develop and gain experience, and he’ll be right up there.  It’s great to see Lucas back after all that he’s been through.  He’s worked really hard and we haven’t seen the best of him yet as he’s only at around ninety-percent of his ability.  This is an exciting young team that is only going to get stronger, especially after racing with the world’s best in events like the Tour of California.”

Euser started the race almost one year to the day that his career, and perhaps even his life, nearly ended after colliding with a car while training in Gerona, Spain.  Euser shattered his knee and endured a nearly year-long rehabilitative process before returning to competition.  Several months before he was contacted about joining the team, he experienced great results while using SpiderTech’s revolutionary pre-cut kinesiology taping applications during his recovery.

Team SpiderTech powered by Planet Energy is a gifted squad of Canadian Olympians and national champions that are all capable of winning races.  Thus far this season, eight different riders have netted the team’s twelve UCI wins.  The team’s next major goals come in June at the TD Bank Philadelphia International Cycling Championship (June 6) and on Canadian turf at the UCI Individual Time Trial in Gatineau, Quebec (June 12) where Parisien and Ryan Roth will represent the team, and at the Tour de Beauce (June 15-20).  Additional information is available at www.cyclesportmanagement.com.

Since 2006, the Amgen Tour of California has blossomed into one of the most important races on the international calendar.  Sixteen professional teams were invited to compete from Australia, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Italy, Netherlands, Switzerland, and the U.S.  Participants included many of the biggest stars in cycling, including seven-time Tour de France victor Lance Armstrong, his RadioShack teammate Levi Leipheimer, Tom Boonen (Quick Step), Mark Cavendish (HTC-Columbia), Saxo Bank’s Andy Schleck and Fabian Cancellara, and David Zabriskie (Garmin-Transitions).  Information is available at www.amgentourofcalifornia.com.

Team SpiderTech powered by Planet Energy scored top 10 finishes in the following stages:

Stage 1: Boivin – 7th

Stage 2: Parisien – 6th

Stage 3: Parisien – 9th

Stage 4: Boivin – 10th

SpiderTech helped Bausch on world record ride

Member of USA women’s team pursuit trio earns gold while setting new mark at the Pan American Championships

Toronto, Ontario: Dotsie Bausch’s body was covered with Spiders when she rode to a new world record as part of the USA women’s team pursuit at the recent Pan American Championships (May 12th).  Supported by SpiderTech’s Lower Back, Hip and Upper Knee Spiders, Bausch earned the gold medal with teammates Sarah Hammer and Lauren Tamayo in the three-kilometer track cycling event held in Aguascalientes, Mexico.  The Americans covered the distance in an astounding 3:19:569, which shattered the previous record by nearly two seconds set by the New Zealand team last March 25th (3:21:552).  Bausch & Company is the first women’s team pursuit unit ever to eclipse the 3:20 mark.

“Women's team pursuit in the U.S. has developed at a faster rate than we ever could have imagined.  The support that USA Cycling has given us has been huge.  To take ten seconds off of our Cali, Columbia World Cup qualifying time inside of six months shows our true potential in this event.  We are ecstatic," said Bausch, a six-time National Champion and two-time Pan American Championships gold medal winner.

At age 37, Bausch attributes part of her success and longevity to the use of SpiderTech products.  “I absolutely owe part of my Pan American gold medal and world record to the people at SpiderTech.  I use the tape to train, race, and especially for recovery.  The Lymphatic Spider has become an integral part of my recovery routine after hard days at the track, and since I am no spring chicken, recovery is always a battle.  The Lower Back, Hip and Postural Spiders became a huge part of my training regimen as I prepared for the record-breaking ride in Mexico.  I could not have done my part to achieve this goal without SpiderTech by my side."

A veteran road cyclist who began riding the track in 2007, Bausch helped establish the world record time that year riding the team pursuit with Hammer and Jennie Reed.  Although she enjoyed a fresh challenge, it wasn’t until it was announced last winter that the women’s team pursuit would be an Olympic event at the 2012 London Games that Bausch, Hammer and Tamayo, along with the support of USA Cycling, committed to pursuing an Olympic medal.

"I am intensely passionate about the event (team pursuit).  It is poetry in motion.  After 10 years of racing professionally on the road, I began to feel a bit bored and slightly burned out.  I love training and racing for this event.  It has everything: technicality, elements of high anaerobic fitness with aerobic base, intensity like nothing on the road, and it requires complete perfection of execution to ride the best time.  That's my favorite part: the immense pressure to ride perfectly.  You can mess up on the road a few times, or many times - a pedal stroke here and there - but in the team pursuit, every mistake costs you one-tenth of a second or more, which could easily be the difference between first and second (place)."

Bausch enjoys the camaraderie of teaming with Hammer, a four-time world champion, and Tamayo and is grateful for the support USA Cycling has given them.  “They (USA Cycling) have backed us the whole way and have held training camps for us to work together every month prior to major events.  The three of us have fun together.  We really like being with each other and we work very hard when we train.  We leave every camp completely blown, but we get stronger each time."

The Irvine, California resident has been racing as a member of the U.S. National Team since 2002 and has traveled the world competing for her country and on several professional trade teams.  Through her travels over the past year or so since she began using SpiderTech, Bausch has discovered another benefit to using the product.  "SpiderTech is not only for training and racing at my best, but also for traveling on long flights across the globe.  When I sit for long hours when traveling, my lower back and IT bands get very tight.  The Lower Back and Hip Spiders keep me loose and the blood flow uninterrupted.  I arrive at my destination feeling ready to ride and train the first day, instead of spending two or three days trying get rid of ‘airplane legs.’”

With more than a decade of racing her bike at the professional level and in international competition, Bausch knows that injuries are part of sports.  She has successfully utilized SpiderTech to overcome physical setbacks.  "SpiderTech’s Hip Spider has been instrumental in my healing from sciatica.  Nothing worked before Spider Tape to help keep the pain at bay while I healed.  I always had pain and since I always train hard, I lived on Ibuprophen, which had me very concerned for the health of my liver.  SpiderTech makes it so I can take care of my body inside and out."

Hoping to mine Olympic hardware in London with her teammates, Bausch will likely retire afterwards, thus she’s interested in helping introduce the next generation of potential female team pursuit riders to the track.  “The future of U.S. women's team pursuit has massive potential.  We need a group of women to begin learning the track for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio.  USA Cycling is holding a few informational forums at this year's road nationals in Bend, Oregon and I will come up to answer questions about the team pursuit.  I am very motivated to see the next wave of youngsters learn team pursuit so they can crush it in 2016."

Team SpiderTech powered by Planet Energy sprints to a fourth consecutive top 10 finish in the Amgen Tour of California

Guillaume Boivin claims his second top 10 with today’s 10th place result

Modesto, CA: On what many expected to be the last day for the true sprinters to display their prowess during the 2010 Amgen Tour of California, Team SpiderTech powered by Planet Energy’s young Canadian fastman Guillaume Boivin collected his second top ten finish of the week when he arrived on the damp roads of Modesto in tenth place.  Stage 4 (195.5 kilometers), which began in San Jose, was won by Italian Francesco Chicchi (Liquigas-Doimo) just ahead of Juan Jose Haedo (Saxo Bank) and sprint points competition leader Mark Cavendish (HTC-Columbia).  No change at the top of the General Classification, thus David Zabriskie (Garmin-Transitions) will take the start tomorrow cloaked in the yellow leader’s jersey.

Starting the stage under warm, sunny skies that later turned to sprinkles, a seven-man break - Lars Boom (Rabobank), Jurgen Van de Walle (Quick Step), Rob Britton (Bissell), Jeremy Powers (Jelly Belly), Ryan Anderson (Kelly Benefit Strategies), Scott Stewart and Davide Frattini (Team Type 1) - got away after a handful of kilometers on the nearly six-kilometer Sierra Road climb.  Stewart and Frattini lost their grip on the break and Anderson cut the cord after collecting maximum points on the second King of the Mountains climb on Mines Road.  The now four-man break’s advantage peaked at 6:30 before Cervelo TestTeam and Liquigas lead the chase for their sprinters.

A key moment occurred when the peloton was assaulted by crosswinds.  The attentive RadioShack squad drilled it, which put Zabriskie under pressure when he was gapped.  But he managed to claw his way back and after a turn, the wind direction changed allowing the field, which had shattered, to regroup.  With the break’s advantage whittled down to a minute with seventeen kilometers left, Boom attacked his compatriots.  The attempt failed, but he tried again with ten kilometers left before the start of two circuits on rain-slick roads in downtown Modesto.  No dice.  The break was caught and HTC-Columbia’s train assumed the helm of the peloton.  As the field crossed the finish line to start the first circuit, Team SpiderTech amassed at the front, but it proved to be a bit too soon.  Fly V Australia battled HTC-Columbia for control during the circuits, but in the end, Chicchi rocketed past Haedo for the victory.  Boivin, who finished sixth in Stage 1, claimed tenth place.

“It was a pretty hard day.  We rode tempo all day.  It was a free-for-all at the end during the final two circuits to maintain our position.  We blew a couple of bullets early and it cost us the final sprint.  Still, we're happy to get our fourth top ten,” said Boivin, who will turn twenty-one next week (May 25).

"Perhaps it was expected to be a day where the peloton cruised to a bunch sprint, but I could see a race of tempo and gradual fatigue on the riders,” said Team SpiderTech powered by Planet Energy director Steve Bauer.  “It was a tough day.  Our team raced hard to place our sprinters - (Martin) Gilbert and Boivin - in front for the final surge.  Gilbert admitted he was battling too early for position and hit the wind too often.  Boivin landed a nice top ten finish, but the boys are not content.  They believe they can do better and I appreciate their enthusiasm to improve.”

Continuing the southern trek through the Golden State, Thursday’s Stage 5 moves from Visalia to Bakersfield, passing through the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains along the 195.6-kilometer route.  After a couple of early sprints, the peloton will ascend the twisty Old Stage Road and a second King of the Mountains climb (Round Mountain Road) before tackling several short, steep ramps that lead to the finish at Bakersfield College.

The eight-day, 1280-kilometer Amgen Tour of California is regarded as one of the most important races on the international calendar comprised of sixteen professional teams from Australia, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Italy, Netherlands, Switzerland, and the U.S.  For further information, please visit www.amgentourofcalifornia.com.

Stage 4 results:

  1. Francesco Chicchi (Liquigas-Doimo)
  2. Juan Jose Haedo (Saxo Bank)
  3. Mark Cavendish (HTC-Columbia)

10.  Guillaume Boivin (Team SpiderTech powered by Planet Energy)

Team SpiderTech powered by Planet Energy climbing with some of the world’s best at the Amgen Tour of California

Parisien takes ninth place in Stage 3, Eric Boily part of a five-man break

Santa Cruz, CA: Another difficult test for the team from Canada, another day the young squad confirms their place amongst the world’s best.  After Eric Boily and four competitors were caught in the day’s main break, Stage 3 (182.3 kilometers) of the Amgen Tour of California was settled after a thrilling showdown on the climb of Bonny Doon Road between three of the General Classification favorites: three-time defending champion Levi Leipheimer (RadioShack), Michael Rogers (HTC-Columbia) and David Zabriskie (Garmin-Transitions).  Zabriskie out-kicked his companions to claim victory as they barely held off a fast-charging group of elite climbers, including Francois Parisien, who crossed the finish line in Santa Cruz in ninth place.  Zabriskie now leads the GC.

Departing from San Francisco a short pedal from the iconic Golden Gate Bridge, the early part of the stage along the Pacific Coast Highway was more about the sprint competition.  As the field turned onto the first of four King of the Mountains climbs at Tunitas Creek Road about fifty-five kilometers into the stage, Boily became part of a break that included Andy Jacques-Maynes (Bissell), Will Routley (Jelly Belly), Ryan Anderson (Kelly Benefit Strategies) and Davide Frattini (Team Type 1).  Sun gave way to rain as the break built their advantage to almost five minutes over the next two KOM climbs.  RadioShack commanded the front of the field in an effort to set up Leipheimer, who launched a massive attack on Bonny Doon Road in last year’s race.  The break was recalled just prior to the turn onto the day’s final KOM.  Leipheimer, teammate Lance Armstrong, Rogers, Zabriskie and UnitedHealthcare’s Rory Sutherland exploded onto the climb, but Armstrong and Sutherland quickly fell off the pace.  The three GC giants, who finished in the top three positions in the GC in last year’s race, built a ninety-second advantage by the time they reached the summit.  Parisien and California native Lucas Euser were visible riding towards the front of the select chase group on the climb that managed to narrow the time gap during the long run into the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk finish to just seventeen seconds.  Parisien sprinted to finish ninth.

“Once again my teammates did a great job to execute the plan.  Eric made it into the day’s break of five riders, which contained three Canadians.  After RadioShack brought them back as we approached the left turn for the Bonny Doon ascension, the peloton was flying at more than sixty kilometers per hour.  My teammates protected and delivered Lucas and myself into the top ten of the peloton,” explained Parisien.

“During the first few kilometers after turning onto Bonny Doon, we were riding full-on holding nearly five-hundred watts.  Once Levi, David and Michael went, the rest of what was left of the peloton sat in.  Lucas rode at the front to maintain a good tempo.  We crested the summit and started chasing down the break.  We reached ninety kilometers an hour during the descent.  We knew we had a chance to bring them back.  With (team director) Steve's (Bauer) description of the finish and (team manager’s) Josee's (Larocque) input from the finish, I tried to visualize the last kilometer in preparation for the sprint.  We came close to bringing them back.  Thus far, we’ve scored three top ten finishes in three stages, which is awesome for the team.  Everyone’s effort is paying off.  Tomorrow should be another interesting day for us,” the Quebec native concluded.

“It was a great confirmation today that Team SpiderTech are here to race,” said Bauer.  “Eric did a great job making the break of the day, which was certain to be controlled, but it gave the team a presence in the lead.  I was impressed with Francois and Lucas on the final climb up Bonny Doon.  RadioShack made the race for Levi to attack so it was full-on from the bottom (of the KOM) to the finish.  Once again, it came down to an elite group of twenty or so riders in front so our guys continue to prove that they are in the game battling amongst the best riders in the world.”

Wednesday’s (May 19) Stage 4 will test the riders’ legs early on the menacing King of the Mountains climb of Sierra Road less than ten kilometers after departing San Jose in a route that will cover 195.5 kilometers.  The peloton will dash through a pair of sprint zones and a second KOM climb before the long descent into Modesto where the stage will finish with a couple of downtown circuits.

Rain can’t dampen Team SpiderTech as they score another Top 10 at the Amgen Tour of California

Parisien finished 6th with GC favorites, Randell in the break of the day

Santa Rosa, CA: A rare cold rain shower in May made the roads glacial during today’s Stage 2 of the Amgen Tour of California, but the weather didn’t dampen the spirits of the frisky Canadians racing for Team SpiderTech powered by Planet Energy.  After a long five-man break that included team captain Andrew Randell was caught in the closing kilometers of the 177.2-kilometer stage from Davis to Santa Rosa, Francois Parisien fought tenaciously to finish the stage in sixth place along side a select group of General Classification favorites.  Brett Lancaster (Cervelo TestTeam) sprinted to the victory and also inherited the race leader’s golden fleece.

A dozen kilometers into the stage, Randell pedaled across to join the break that included Karl Menzies (UnitedHealthcare), Jay Robert Thomson (Fly V Australia), Michael Friedman (Jelly Belly) and Thomas Rabou (Team Type 1).  The break worked well together as they built an advantage that peaked at over six-and-a-half minutes.  Riders crashed in heaps throughout the long slog on technical descents that became even more treacherous due to the wet conditions.  With the RadioShack team of three-time defending Amgen Tour of California champion Levi Leipheimer maintaining control of the field along with then race leader Mark Cavendish’s HTC-Columbia squad, an offensive was launched on the Trinity Grade climb by RadioShack and Garmin-Transitions, which decimated the field.  Parisien held on and finished in an elite group that contained the overall race favorites, including Leipheimer, his teammate, seven-time Tour de France Champion Lance Armstrong, Michael Rogers (HTC-Columbia), David Zabriskie (Garmin-Transitions) and Andy Schleck (Saxo Bank).

“Today is further confirmation that we belong here (in the race).  Andrew (Randell) did a great job in the break.  I followed the RadioShack train and we caught Andrew's group about five kilometers from the top of the final climb.  There were only about fifteen riders left.  The descent was quite dangerous.  Andy Schleck missed a turn and went straight into a bush.  As soon as we reached the bottom of the climb, our speed never went below fifty-five kilometers per hour.  We took some risks.  I analyzed who was there and prepared for the sprint.  I'm happy about the result,” said the twenty-eight year-old Parisien.

Team SpiderTech director Steve Bauer was also pleased.  “It was a good day for Team SpiderTech powered by Planet Energy with Francois contesting the stage victory in Santa Rosa with a select group of strongmen.  Andrew rode strongly all day and I'm proud of Parisien's sixth place amongst the elite GC contenders.  It was a difficult finale under slippery conditions.”

Starting in the shadow of the iconic Golden Gate Bridge, Stage 3 (May 18) pedals 182.3 kilometers from San Francisco down Highway 1 along the picturesque coastline adjacent to the majestic Pacific Ocean before finishing at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk.  En route, the peloton will battle in two early sprints before conquering four King of the Mountains climbs, including the final ascent of Bonny Doon Road.

Top 10 for Team SpiderTech in their Amgen Tour of California debut

Attentive Boivin slots in seventh after a crash-marred finish

Sacramento, CA: Team SpiderTech powered by Planet Energy made a strong debut today during the opening stage of the fifth Amgen Tour of California with the Canadian squad’s Guillaume Boivin attentively avoiding a couple of large pileups to score a seventh place result behind stage winner Mark Cavendish (HTC-Columbia).

The mostly downhill stage pedaled 167.8 kilometers from Nevada City to Sacramento.  A four-man break consisting of Chad Beyer (BMC), Mark de Maar (UnitedHealthcare), Paul Mach (Bissell) and Maarten Tjallingii (Rabobank) escaped the field after twenty kilometers, building up an advantage of several minutes.  Knowing that the day would be settled by the sprinters, Team SpiderTech surrounded fastmen Boivin and Martin Gilbert, the only non-ProTour rider to win a stage at last year’s Tour of Missouri, who smartly conserved energy by riding towards the back of the peloton along with some of the world’s best sprinters including Cavendish, Tom Boonen (Quick Step), Francesco Chicchi (Liquigas-Doimo), Juan Jose Haedo (Saxo Bank) and Heinrich Haussler (Cervelo TestTeam).  With Cavendish regarded as the fastest sprinter in the world, HTC-Columbia were forced to drive the chase.

The break was absorbed with sixteen kilometers remaining and a nervous peloton roared into California’s state capital to conclude the stage by completing three circuits around the State Capitol building.  While HTC-Columbia was rivaled by Saxo Bank for control, Team SpiderTech sagely moved towards the head of the field as the peloton began the final circuit.  During the final lap, a couple of crashes, one of which detained Gilbert with six hundred meters left, caused a massive separation in the field leaving a group of a dozen riders to sprint for the stage win.  Cavendish easily took the honors with Boivin crossing the finish a few meters behind in seventh place.

“The team did a great job protecting Martin and I from hitting the wind all day.  HTC-Columbia kept the lead of the breakaway group under control most of the day so we knew the race would come to a final sprint.  On the final circuit, Martin and I were separated by a crash with two kilometers to go.  I got good position before the final turn and did my best alone in the final kick.  I'm happy with the outcome.  However, it could have been much better if Martin and I were still together at four hundred meters to go,” said the poised twenty-year old Boivin.

Team SpiderTech director Steve Bauer said, “We are satisfied with our inaugural performance during the first stage of the Amgen Tour of California.  Our riders worked well to position Martin and Guillaume for the final lap.  Two important crashes separated our sprint duo with two kilometers to go.  Guillaume sprinted to a superb seventh place behind Cavendish and Haedo.  We are expecting more good things from this young man.”

Monday’s (May 17) Stage 2 travels 177.2 kilometers from Davis to Santa Rosa during which the riders will face two mid-race sprints and four King of the Mountains climbs.  The eight-day, 1280-kilometre Amgen Tour of California is regarded as one of the most important races on the international calendar comprised of sixteen professional teams from Australia, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Italy, Netherlands, Switzerland, and the U.S.  For further information, please visit www.amgentourofcalifornia.com.

Team SpiderTech powered by Planet Energy announce lineup for the Amgen Tour of California

Canadian team looking to mine stage wins in their debut in America’s biggest bike race

St. Catharines, Ontario: Hoping to snare stage wins in their web, Team SpiderTech powered by Planet Energy has unveiled the eight-man roster that will represent Canada’s only UCI (Union Cycliste Internationale) continental squad at the 2010 Amgen Tour of California, which gets underway Sunday (May 16) in Nevada City and finishes May 23rd in Thousand Oaks.  The first Canadian team ever to compete in America’s most prestigious road cycling race that features a host of the sport’s top riders will be comprised of (Canadian unless otherwise noted) Martin Gilbert, Francois Parisien, Lucas Euser (USA), David Boily, Guillaume Boivin, Andrew Randell, Bruno Langlois, and Eric Boily.

“Team SpiderTech are ready to engage in battle in North America’s premier stage race.  We have worked hard to be here and are excited to challenge the best teams in the world.  The goal to achieve excellent results will put additional pressure on our current roster since two of our top riders, Keven Lacombe (mononucleosis) and Ryan Roth (bruised patella), are experiencing health problems and are unavailable to race.  However, we are certainly not the only team to have riders sitting out on the sidelines.  I know our men will rise to the occasion by racing with focus, intensity and heart.  We’ll be looking for opportunities to create some surprises throughout the week,” said team director Steve Bauer.

Three-time Amgen Tour of California champion Levi Leipheimer will be back to defend his crown with the support of his RadioShack teammate, seven-time Tour de France victor Lance Armstrong.  Other stars illuminating the marquee include Tom Boonen (Quick Step), Mark Cavendish (HTC-Columbia), Saxo Bank’s Andy Schleck and Fabian Cancellara, and Heinrich Haussler (Cervelo TestTeam).

The eight-day, 1280-kilometre Amgen Tour of California has blossomed into one of the most important races on the international calendar comprised of sixteen professional teams from Australia, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Italy, Netherlands, Switzerland, and the U.S.  Previously held in February, the fifth edition of the race makes its May debut, which enables the route visiting sixteen host cities showcasing the Golden State’s scenic and historic areas to include treks through the high mountains in the Sierras and the first-ever mountaintop finish in Big Bear Lake.

Team SpiderTech powered by Planet Energy is a gifted young squad of Canadian Olympians and national champions that are all capable of winning races.  Thus far this season, eight different riders have netted the team’s twelve UCI wins, including a pair of stage victories at last month’s Vuelta Telmex, which ranks the team fifth in 2010 UCI wins.  Last September, Gilbert burst through the peloton to become the only rider not from a ProTour team to win a stage at America’s other Grand Tour, the Tour of Missouri.  Additional information is available at www.cyclesportmanagement.com.

SpiderTech hosts classy UCI cycling team launch

and Bauer tribute

Glitzy fundraiser included auctioning Bauer’s Tour de France yellow jersey

and video messages from Armstrong & Liggett

(Toronto, Ontario): Perhaps the only thing missing from last week’s (January 28) SpiderTech team presentation and Steve Bauer tribute was a red carpet.  Otherwise, the glitzy event held at Toronto’s Royal Ontario Museum could easily have passed for a Hollywood movie premiere.  Approximately 150 affluent and powerful movers and shakers from Toronto and Montreal gathered to launch the country’s only UCI continental cycling team at a press conference, cocktail party, fundraising dinner and salute hosted by SpiderTech founder Ray Arbesman, along with wife Karen

Starting with a press conference, Bauer, one of North America’s greatest cyclists and Canada’s acknowledged best who now directs and manages Team SpiderTech presented by Planet Energy for his Cycle Sport Management, audaciously disclosed the team’s lofty goals: to become the nation’s first ProTour team, to compete in the Tour de France, and to place a Canadian on the final podium at Le Tour.  In 1988, Bauer won the opening stage of the Tour de France and wore the race leader’s yellow jersey in 1988 for five days before finishing a step from the podium in 4th place.  Two years later, he led the Tour for nine days.  A video montage of the team’s highlights from last season was screened, which spotlighted the dazzling sprint victory by Martin Gilbert in the final stage of the Tour of Missouri against some of the swiftest sprinters and professional teams in the sport.  The fifteen athletes, featuring thirteen Canadians, were introduced to the media in their new white and green Team SpiderTech team kits.

It was Arbesman’s idea to turn the team presentation into a fundraising dinner and a salute to Bauer.  During the tribute, video messages from Bauer’s former teammate Lance Armstrong and the voice of cycling Phil Liggett were played.  The highlight reel from Bauer’s stellar career included Tour de France footage, an attacking Bauer riding to win the silver medal in the Los Angeles Olympic Games road race (1984), and a heartbreaking 2nd place finish at the 1990 Paris-Roubaix, which he lost at the line by one-thousandth of a second.  Bauer somewhat bashfully took the microphone to thank those who supported him during his career, but humbly refocused the attention on the Team SpiderTech riders now charged with carrying the mantle for an entire country.  Amongst the big ticket items auctioned to support the squad, the final yellow jersey Bauer wore during the 1990 Tour de France sold for a winning bid of $23,500.

During the press conference, SpiderTech vice president of marketing Bill Payne enthusiastically confirmed the company’s support of the team and stressed that Bauer is the perfect person to lead the ambitious effort for the nation.  At dinner, SpiderTech president Michael Greenberg said, “I had never been to a bike race prior to seeing the team compete in Philadelphia last June.  When we saw the heart, raw guts and determination with which they rode, we fell in love.  We’re a young company supporting a young team.  We are proud to rise from sponsor to title sponsor this year.  And although we’re expecting to see a lot of SpiderTech product in the peloton of every race this year, Team SpiderTech is our team.”

SpiderTech takes over the Planet

SpiderTech becomes the title sponsor of Canada’s Planet Energy pro cycling team

After a successful collaboration last season, which culminated in a victory in the final stage of the Tour of Missouri, SpiderTech - the sixteen ready-to-apply taping applications known as Spiders designed to improve performance by supporting muscles, improve blood and lymphatic circulation, alleviate pain and correct joint problems - has elevated their commitment to become the title sponsor of Team Planet Energy, Canada’s only UCI continental squad.  The team, run by Cycle Sport Management and directed by Olympic silver medalist and Tour de France stage winner Steve Bauer, will compete in 2010 as SpiderTech presented by Planet Energy.

Developed and distributed by the Toronto, Ontario-based NUCAP MEDICAL, SpiderTech was introduced last year and was swiftly embraced by cyclists as well as professional and collegiate sports including football, baseball, hockey, soccer, volleyball, running and triathlon.  Last spring, SpiderTech came onboard as a sponsor of Team Planet Energy and sponsored the medical staff at last September’s Tour of Missouri, one of the most prestigious races in the U.S. featuring many of the best professional teams and marquee riders from the international peloton in the seven-day, seven-stage, 600+-mile race.  Team Planet Energy’s Martin Gilbert won Stage 7 in an electrifying field sprint.  Other riders who wore SpiderTech in the race included Tour de France sprint points winner Thor Hushovd and Olympic medalist and Grand Tour podium finisher Levi Leipheimer.

“As a new Canadian company, everyone at SpiderTech is proud to become the title sponsor of a young and dynamic Canadian professional cycling team, which competes at the highest level on the international stage,” said NUCAP MEDICAL’s president Michael Greenberg.  “We traveled with the team last year to Philly (for the Philadelphia International Cycling Championship) and Missouri and we worked closely with Team Planet Energy throughout the year.  It was exciting to watch these marvelous athletes benefit in numerous ways from the use of SpiderTech.  The cycling community has made us feel welcome and we’ve witnessed the growth of the SpiderTech brand throughout both the professional and amateur pelotons.  We’re thrilled about spreading the SpiderTech web across the globe with the SpiderTech presented by Planet Energy riders leading the way.”

Heading into their fourth season, the newly christened SpiderTech presented by Planet Energy squad boasts a core group of Canadian riders consisting of Gilbert, Mark Batty, Eric Boily, Keven Lacombe, Bruno Langlois, François Parisien, Andrew Randell, Ryan Roth and Charly Vives.  Adding firepower to the talented line-up is American Lucas Euser (Garmin-Slipstream) along with David Boily, Guilluame Boivin, Stephane Cossette, Flavio De Luna and Simon Lambert-Lemay.

SpiderTech presented by Planet Energy will be presented to the media at an exclusive invitation-only event on January 28th at the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto hosted by NUCAP MEDICAL’s owner Ray Arbesman with his wife, Karen, which will also pay tribute to Bauer.  A silent auction open to the public will be held with the items up for bid including Bauer’s final yellow jersey worn during the 1990 Tour de France.

Created by Dr. Kevin Jardine, SpiderTech has revolutionized the methodologies of kinesiology taping through pre-cut applications, which for the first time provide a standardization of treatment in clinical use.  The ready-to-apply Spider applications meet the needs of rehabilitative professionals by providing a synergistic influence on performance enhancement, pain reduction, and prevention of injury, the triad of which is referred to as “3P” – Performance, Pain & Prevention.  SpiderTech is fabricated from high-grade cotton material with 100% acrylic, hypoallergenic adhesive.  The tape is water-resistant and breathable, and can be worn for up to five days.  Additional information is available at www.spidertech.com.

Missouri will be infested with Spiders

SpiderTech to sponsor the Tour of Missouri pro cycling race

Missouri is about to spin a web of Spiders from one end of the state to the other.  NUCAP MEDICAL’s SpiderTech, the sixteen ready-to-apply taping applications known as Spiders designed to improve performance by supporting muscles, improve blood and lymphatic circulation, alleviate pain and correct joint problems, will sponsor the third running of the Tour of Missouri bicycle race scheduled to take place September 7-13, 2009 featuring some of cycling’s marquee stars from fifteen of the best professional teams from around the globe.  Specifically, the sponsorship will directly support the medical team that provides health care for the entire race caravan, including the riders, directors, officials, and team and race staff.

“In terms of the demands placed on a professional athlete’s body, a pro cycling stage race ranks amongst the toughest,” said SpiderTech creator Dr. Kevin Jardine.  “We are thrilled to be involved with the Tour of Missouri, one of the biggest bike races in the U.S, as it shall provide a demanding environment – a mobile laboratory if you will - to further demonstrate SpiderTech’s ability to successfully improve performance, reduce pain and accelerate recovery.  SpiderTech excels in this type of event because of the various ways it can contribute to an athlete’s and a team’s successes.  In fact, we’ve tagged SpiderTech as ‘the legal advantage’ because of the numerous benefits use of the product can provide.”

SpiderTech is also a sponsor of Team Planet Energy, a Canadian pro cycling team that will make its debut in the 600-plus-mile Tour of Missouri, which will start in St. Louis and finish in Kansas City.  Dr. Jardine, who was in Monaco last month for the start of the Tour de France to work on the Cervelo TestTeam - another international squad that will compete in Missouri - will be available throughout the seven-day, seven-stage tour to meet with team support staff to introduce them to SpiderTech and provide training in the application of the Spiders.

Developed and distributed by the new Toronto, Ontario-based NUCAP MEDICAL,

SpiderTech has reinvented kinesiology tape methodologies through pre-cut applications designed to provide a standardization of tape treatment in clinical use.  The ready-to-apply Spider applications meet the needs of rehabilitative and performance enhancing professionals by providing a synergistic influence on performance enhancement, pain reduction, and prevention of injury, the triad of which is referred to as “3P” – Performance, Pain & Prevention.

She climbs like a spider!

Ruth Corset wins Queen of the Wall title in Philly wearing SpiderTech

The most feared part of the 14.4-mile TD Bank Liberty Classic circuit through the streets of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania is the famed Manayunk Wall, a steep hill at a leg-punishing 17% grade that the women ascended four times during last Sunday’s (June 7) 57.6-mile bike race.  Ruth Corset, a pixie-like Australian wearing SpiderTech - the ready-to-apply taping applications designed to alleviate pain and provide support to weakened and injured areas of the body - powered her lithe body up The Wall and charged over the course’s Lemon Hill to win the coveted Queen of the Wall prize as the event’s best climber at the biggest one-day professional road cycling race in the United States.

Corset had a Lower Back Spider applied the day before the race, which she wore under her jersey.  The second-year pro who finished the TD Bank Liberty Classic in 7th place in a talented international field of over 100 riders said, “SpiderTech tape has done wonders for my aching, tight and aggravated back - not only in the mountains, but on tough hilly circuits like the Montreal World Cup and the Liberty Classic.  I am a believer.”

Presently competing with her New Zealand-based Jazz Apple professional cycling team at the five-day Nature Valley Grand Prix in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Corset continued, “On Wednesday night (June 10), I tried SpiderTech to help my tight IT bands and I felt great."

Corset was introduced to SpiderTech by the company’s athlete ambassador Dotsie Bausch, who is Jazz Apple’s team captain.  Also sporting SpiderTech last Sunday in the 156-mile men’s Philadelphia International Cycling Championship were riders from Team Planet Energy, the top Canadian pro squad of which the company is a sponsor.

SpiderTech was developed by Toronto, Ontario’s Nucap Medical to innovatively address pain management and myofascial dysfunction through the use of specialized elastic tape applications made from the proven Nitto-Denko tape, the original kinesiology tape from Japan engineered to mimic the thickness, weight and elasticity of human skin.  It is presently available in sixteen pre-cut therapeutic and performance enhancing supports known as Spiders that were created by chiropractor Dr. Kevin Jardine, an advisor to numerous professional cyclists, runners, triathletes, and sports teams.

Both SpiderTech and SpiderTape - the new brand name for Nitto-Denko kinesiology tape distributed by Nucap Medical - are fabricated from high-grade cotton material with 100% acrylic, hypoallergenic adhesive.  It is water-resistant and breathable, and can be worn for up to five days.  The origins of SpiderTech and SpiderTape are traced to the unique Nitto-Denko tape that was developed in 1987 for a Japanese chiropractor for kinesiology taping.  The tape is used and accepted worldwide by professional and Olympic athletes.  With more than 25 years of product development and production, it is regarded as the elite line and world standard in kinesiology tape.

Watch out, peloton!  Here come the Spidermen!

SpiderTech sponsors Planet Energy pro cycling team

When Team Planet Energy (www.teamplanetenergy.com) takes the start this Sunday (June 7th) at the 156-mile Philadelphia International Cycling Championship, the biggest one-day race held on U.S. roads, some of the athletes will have Spiders on their bodies.  These Spiders don’t bite, but they might enable Team Planet Energy to take a bite out of the pro peloton.  SpiderTech (www.spidertech.com), the ready-to-apply taping applications designed to alleviate pain and provide support to weakened and injured areas of the body, has come aboard as a sponsor of Team Planet Energy, Canada’s top professional cycling team that is under the direction of Tour de France stage winner Steve Bauer, an Olympic silver medalist.

It is available in fourteen pre-cut therapeutic and performance enhancing supports known as Spiders that were created by chiropractor Dr. Kevin Jardine, an advisor to numerous professional cyclists, runners, triathletes, and sports teams.

"We’re thrilled to be supporting the world-class cyclists that comprise Team Planet Energy, a relationship that will allow SpiderTech products to be utilized in their full capacity with the treatment of painful conditions, improving performance and preventing injuries.  Day in, day out, cyclists constantly demand the most from their bodies.  The use of SpiderTech products will allow them to take it one step further, which could be the margin of victory,” stated Jardine.

“SpiderTech is a brilliant evolution in sports taping technology,” declared Bauer.  “The taping system is at the leading edge of design and functionality.  SpiderTech is applied quickly, efficiently and it works.  If an athlete is not using SpiderTech now, they will be soon.”

Team Planet Energy rider Ryan Roth said, “I've used SpiderTech combined with treatment from Kevin and was quickly able to resolve the trouble I was having with my knee with very little training time lost.  I've continued using SpiderTech during my recovery and as a preventative measure.”

Team captain Francois Parisien concurred.  "At times in my career, I have had knee injuries that have made it difficult to train properly.  With SpiderTech taping technology, I am able to train and race as hard as I want with peace of mind.  SpiderTech is a great asset for any athlete."

Currently SpiderTech is offered as the Upper Knee Spider, Full Knee Spider, Calf & Arch Spider, Shoulder Spider, Lower Back Spider, Lymphatic Spider, Hip Spider, Postural Spider, Groin Spider, Hamstring Spider, Elbow Spider, Wrist Spider, Neck Spider and Ankle Spider.

The origins of SpiderTech and SpiderTape are traced to the unique Nitto-Denko tape that was developed in 1987 for a Japanese chiropractor for kinesiology taping.  The tape is used and accepted worldwide by professional and Olympic athletes and was referred to as “the magic tape” in Lance Armstrong’s book Every Second Counts.  With more than 25 years of product development and production, it is regarded as the elite line and world standard in kinesiology tape.

The dozen pre-cut taping solutions relieve pain and provide support

Fusing old school Eastern technology and new school Western methodology, Nucap Medical has developed SpiderTech to innovatively address pain management and myofascial dysfunction through the use of specialized elastic tape applications.  Made from the proven Nitto-Denko tape, the original kinesiology tape from Japan engineered to mimic the thickness, weight and elasticity of human skin, SpiderTech is available in twelve pre-cut therapeutic and performance enhancing supports that were created by chiropractor Dr. Kevin Jardine, an advisor to numerous professional runners, triathletes and cycling teams.

“Through clinical trials with patients, we’ve found SpiderTape to have a remarkable efficacy, allowing the patient to regain pain-free mobility and resume his or her training regimen,” said Dr. Jardine, an active Ironman triathlete who serves as chief medical officer of Nucap Medical.  “Teaming with one of my patients, we’ve formed a partnership in the development of a complete range of engineered kinesiology taping solutions that provide therapists and clients with effective, easy-to-use treatment options.”

SpiderTech and SpiderTape are available at www.nucapmedical.com.  Nucap Medical is the inventor, manufacturer and exclusive worldwide distributor of SpiderTech and the exclusive North American distributor of Nitto-Denko kinesiology tape rolls under the brand name SpiderTape.  The company is presently entertaining and negotiating agreements with distributors in the Unites States and Mexico.
