Orlando Concert Raised $10,000 for research; Artist Nominated for Five Oasis Smooth Jazz Awards
Several years ago, six-year-old Kaitlyn Bubb accompanied her parents to a concert by dynamic saxman Richard Elliot in Orlando, Florida. Bubb, who is afflicted with Juvenile Diabetes, was enthralled by the energetic performance from the Blue Note recording artist who has had four #1 contemporary jazz albums. After the show, Elliot met Bubb at an autograph session and a friendship was formed. The two kept in touch via telephone and online and Kaitlyn attended every show Elliot has since played in the area. The youth is an advocate for the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation and earlier this year she asked Elliot to play a benefit concert. He agreed. Last month (November 6) at CityJazz Nightclub in Universal Studio’s CityWalk, Elliot brought his "Chill Factor" concert tour into Orlando and netted $10,000.00 for research by playing to a packed house.
"How could I tell Kaitlyn no? She can be pretty persuasive - even for a nine-year-old. She’s an amazing force," commented Elliot, who recently became a father for the fourth time. "My wife and I have been so blessed (with healthy children). Getting to know Kaitlyn the past few years has helped me realize just how fortunate we really are. This was just a small way for me to help out other children like Kaitlyn." In July, Elliot released his eleventh solo album, "Chill Factor." The title cut spent three weeks at #1 on the smooth jazz singles chart. Now moving up the chart is the second single from the disc, "On The Fly."
The inaugural Oasis Smooth Jazz Awards has heaped five award nominations on Elliot for his work on the disc as well as one for his producer, Steve Dubin. Elliot received nominations in prestigious categories including "Artist of the Year," "Male Artist," "Song of the Year," "CD of the Year" and "Best Saxophone." The statues will be doled out January 28 at Bass Hall in Ft. Worth, Texas. Elliot is scheduled to perform at the awards fest, which will be taped for a later syndicated television broadcast.

Many know Richard Elliot as the saxophonist who has had four #1 smooth jazz albums, seminal artist of the contemporary instrumental pop radio format and dynamic performer who plays about one hundred U.S. concert dates annually to throngs of adoring fans. Others know the Richard Elliot who is president and co-founder of PacificNet, a Los Angeles-based multimedia company that provides cutting-edge Internet services and technology to businesses and consumers. Very few know the highly successful duel existence of the musician-Internet entrepreneur.
While on a U.S. concert tour four-and-a-half years ago, the self professed "computer geek" and his tour manager, Dave Pennells, initially conceived of PacificNet as an outfit to design and maintain web sites for radio stations. Knowing the music and entertainment industries, Elliot and Pennells figured they would have a better understanding of the needs of entertainment-related businesses and how to satisfy those needs. With modest goals, modest budget and skeletal staffing, PacificNet was launched in the spring of 1995.
Today, with over thirty full-time employees and round-the-clock operations out of a 4,000 square foot class- A data center, PacificNet has blossomed into one of the top three Internet service providers in Los Angeles. They are pioneers in groundbreaking technological innovations in high-speed data transfer, Internet access and storage, and integrated messaging services including one of the world’s first e-mail paging systems. PacificNet still designs and maintains web sites and is a management solutions provider boasting high-end specialized programs and multiple redundant connections to the Internet. Their prestigious clients are some of the giants in entertainment and business including TRW, GTE, Dunn & Bradstreet, Falcon Cable, Excel Telecommunications, CBS, Interscope Records, Trauma Records, Restless Records, Higher Octave as well as celebrities such as Wayne Gretzky, Sinbad, Wes Craven Roger Corman, Weird Al Yankovich and Oingo Boingo.
Elliot’s last album, "Jumpin’ Off," was named the #1 smooth jazz album of 1998 by music trade Gavin Report. Signed to the Blue Note record label, his just released eleventh solo disc, "Chill Factor," debuted on Billboard magazine’s contemporary jazz chart at #7. Musically, Elliot’s niche is R&B-grooves, cool jazz instrumentals and candlelight ballads. Speaking about his two full-time careers, Elliot said, "People often wonder how I can do both and ask if being in an office and in meetings all the time takes away from my music, but I feel it actually enhances it. PacificNet has enabled me to express my creativity in a completely different arena. Sure it (PacificNet) is demanding, but it helps take my mind off music totally so when it’s time to pick up my sax and write (music) or play concerts, I’m fresher. The company provides a break from the usual grind of making records and touring. While music is certainly my first love and something I will not walk away from, I thoroughly enjoy every aspect of PacificNet and have no plans to give up either."
Richard Elliot is presently touring with his band to promote his eleventh solo record, "Chill Factor." For further information on PacificNet, their web address is www:pacificnet.net.
