Cyclist Village to host fun ride with Tour de France veteran Frankie Andreu

The Frankie Fun Ride on November 16 will benefit Marin County Bicycle Coalition

Cycling entertainment website Cyclist Village will host the Frankie Fun Ride on Sunday, November 16th in Marin County with a portion of the proceeds to benefit the Marin County Bicycle Coalition.  The 42-mile ride starting at 9 AM at The Java Hut (760 Center Boulevard in Fairfax, California) will be led by Tour de France veteran Frankie Andreu, who will be joined by other cycling luminaries including pros Jackson Stewart and Mike Sayers of BMC and Katherine Carroll (Aaron’s Pro Cycling Team).

Participants can test ride Specialized Bicycles, which will be giving away prizes.  All entrants will receive a free water bottle.  The Marin County Bicycle Coalition will provide complementary food and beverages and bike parking.  California Highway Patrol will maintain safety with a rolling escort that will keep the ride moving.  Space exists for 200 riders to participate thus pre-registration is recommended at http://www.bikereg.com/events/register.asp?eventid=7269.  Walk-up registration the morning of the ride will close at 8:30 AM.  The entry fee is $75.00.  To reserve a Specialized bicycle to ride during the event, email info@cyclistvillage.com.

“Part of being a member of a village comes the responsibility of contributing actively to the community.  Cyclist Village takes that role seriously like the benefit ride we co-sponsored earlier this month for the USA Cycling Development Foundation.  We applaud and support the important work being done by the Marin County Bicycle Coalition.  I can’t wait to ride the beautiful roads in Marin County with one of the true gentlemen of our sport, Frankie Andreu,” said Cyclist Village managing partner Marty Church.

Andreu finished the Tour de France nine times and is a two-time Olympian who rode alongside Lance Armstrong during much of his 12-year professional career.  The Dearborn, Michigan-native has directed the Toyota-United and Rock Racing professional cycling teams and knows every aspect of the sport - on the bike and off.  He can still be found at the Tour de France every July where he serves as a commentator on the Versus television network, which has helped the effervescent personality become one of the most respected and recognized faces in all of cycling.

Cyclist Village (www.cyclistvillage.com) is the online hub of cycling entertainment that connects all things cycling on a global scale.  It is an alluring multidimensional site that attracts an array of cyclists, including road, track, mountain, fixed gear and BMX riders.  Cyclist Village is a comprehensive tool that houses individual and group social networking, email, an event calendar, forums, classified listings, blogs, contests, files, photos and a video vault.  The video vault consists of user-generated content and the best video clips gleaned from the web along with premium original packages professionally produced under the Cyclist Village TV banner.  The menu offers highlights from major races, rider interviews, product reviews, and behind the scenes segments hosted by Andreu.

For more than a decade, the Marin County Bicycle Coalition has been working to improve the roads and pathways for cyclists and walkers in the county.  Their goal is that 20% of trips taken in Marin be conducted by riding or walking.  The Coalition’s efforts aim to increase opportunities for daily physical activity, teach children cycling skills and safety, reduce road congestion and greenhouse gas emissions, and provide transportation equity for low-income residents.  Additional information is available at www.marinbike.org.

Cyclist Village completes successful lap around France

Social networking platform provided diverse behind the scenes

Tour de France coverage

When the riders of the 95th Tour de France crossed the finish line Sunday (July 27) in Paris on the fabled Champs-Elysees, the Cyclist Village (www.cyclistvillage.com) crew was there behind the scenes to capture unique vantage points for Cyclist Village TV just as they have been since the most famous bicycle race in the world departed Brest on July 5th.  They partnered with Team Columbia, the American squad owned and operated by High Road Sports, Inc., formerly known as Team High Road and now sponsored by the Columbia Sportswear Company, to accompany the team that won an extraordinary five stages throughout the three-week, 21-stage, 2,212-mile/3,560-km race.  En route Cyclist Village was on the beat interviewing key riders, stage winners, race leaders, team directors and owners, mechanics, cycling legends and even a podium girl.  They also focused their lens on the equipment in informative technology clips in order to examine the innovative gear the riders were utilizing.

During the race, Cyclist Village members were invited to submit questions that top riders such as Team CSC-Saxo Bank’s Jens Voigt answered on camera.  The video clips shot throughout the entire journey - including seldom seen moments like a celebratory victory toast at a Team Columbia dinner and watching four-time stage winner Mark Cavendish get outfitted with Oakley products as if it was Christmas morning - remain available for viewing on demand at Cyclist Village TV.

“In addition to the many unique moments from the Tour de France we were able to bring to viewers from within the Team Columbia camp, one of the most distinguishing elements of our coverage was the diversity of the riders we interviewed,” said Cyclist Village co-founder Jim Fryer, who hosted the video clips.  “We interviewed athletes from the United States, Germany, Spain, Russia, South African, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Belgium, Norway, Great Britain, Austria, Australia, Belarus, Netherlands and the Ukraine.  We were able to offer the U.S. a real sense of just how international this magnanimous global sporting spectacle truly is.”

As the peloton catches its breath on the first rest day of the 95th Tour de France, Cyclist Village (www.cyclistvillage.com) remains on the scene with Team Columbia and all the athletes animating the race to bring you behind the scenes interviews with riders, team directors and cycling legends.  With ten thrilling stages already in the book, the new social-networking platform for cyclists continues to add informative insider interview clips daily to Cyclist Village TV.

Cyclist Village was the first American camera crew to interview stage 4 time trial winner Stefan Schumacher, who stormed to a surprise victory to claim the leader’s yellow jersey.  For this year’s Tour, Cyclist Village is partnered with Team Columbia, the American squad owned and operated by High Road Sports, Inc., to provide a unique behind the scenes view into the three-week stage race that commenced July 5th in Brest and concludes July 27th in Paris after 21 stages and 2,212 miles/3,560 kilometers.  The partnership has turned out to be quite fortuitous for Cyclist Village as Team Columbia dominated the first week of the grandest tour of them all by winning two stages along with holding the lead in the general classification, sprint points and best young rider competitions.

In addition to interviewing the Team Columbia riders and staff, including yellow jersey wearer Kim Kirchen, team captain George Hincapie, two-time stage winner Mark Cavendish, former best young rider jersey holder Thomas Lovkvist, team directors Rolf Aldag and Brian Holm, and team owner Bob Stapleton, Cyclist Village has posted interviews on the site with bold-faced names such as Christian Vande Velde, Alejandro Valverde, Carlos Sastre, Oscar Freire, Frank & Andy Schleck, Oscar Pereiro, Thor Hushovd, Fabian Cancellara, Jens Voigt, Stuart O’Grady, Robbie McEwen, Yaroslav Popovych, Johan Van Summeren, Fabian Wegmann, David Millar, Will Frishkorn, Trent Lowe and Danny Pate.  They’ve also posted clips of interviews with team directors Jonathan Vaughters (Garmin-Chipotle), Erik Dekker (Rabobank) and Heinrich Holczer (Gerolsteiner), and retired racing legend Johan Museeuw.

Launched last month, Cyclist Village is a social-networking platform that connects all things cycling on a global scale.  It is an alluring multidimensional site that attracts an array of cyclists, including road, track, mountain, fixed gear and BMX riders.  Cyclist Village is a comprehensive tool that houses individual and group socializing, email, an event calendar, forums, classified listings, blogs, contests, files, photos and a video vault.  The video vault consists of user-generated content and the best video clips gleaned from the web along with premium original packages professionally produced under the Cyclist Village TV banner.  The menu offers highlights from major races, rider interviews, product reviews, and behind the scenes segments hosted by Tour de France veteran Frankie Andreu and former World Champion Mari Holden.  The site also showcases exclusive content from Garmin-Chipotle team captain Vande Velde and other notable professional cyclists such as Katharine Carroll of Aaron’s Pro Cycling Team.
